(STANARDSVILLE, Va.) — The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County provides care for residents with Alzheimers and dementia, but is now also providing support for caregivers through a new Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group.

“It’s important for caregivers to know that they are not alone in this,” said Liesa Dodson, Sales & Marketing Director at The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County. “These support groups will provide caregivers with emotional, educational, and social support which is so important.”

The Caregiver Support Group will meet the second Thursday of the month at Northside Library, 705 West Rio Road, Charlottesville, beginning on July 14th. The meetings are intended for family caregivers of individuals with Alzheimers or dementia.

The support groups are led by Danielle Lee-Powell, GC-C, BS., who has worked in long term care, geriatric care, as a social worker, hospital liaison, grief counselor, and self-care and mental wellness.

“Danielle’s expertise and experience will serve caregivers of Alzheimer’s and dementia in such a tremendous way,” said Dodson. “We are excited for her knowledge and care and the support it will provide caregivers.”

Topics to be discussed at the caregiver support meetings include stress management for the caregiver, caring for the caregiver, grief and loss, guilt and forgiveness, finding joy in the moments, managing emotions, distract/redirect/try again, and more.
