Diana Montague is a sweet and adventurous woman whose life has centered around family, hard work, and meaningful experiences. Originally from Washington, DC, Diana grew up in a large, loving family with six siblings. From a young age, she learned the value of family, responsibility, and resilience—values that have stayed with her throughout her life.

As a child, Diana lived on a farm, an experience she has always been proud of. Life on the farm required strength and determination, and Diana embraced it fully. She often recalls how the work helped make her strong—something she has always carried with pride. One of her fondest memories from those days is caring for a cow named Patsy, who held a special place in her heart.

Diana attended Fairfax High School, where she was an involved member of the school choir. During her younger years, she met her sweetheart, Noel Montague, and their love story would span decades. Diana and Noel shared a beautiful marriage for a little over 60 years, building a life together rooted in love, dedication, and partnership.

After graduating from high school, Diana continued her education at the University of Virginia. She also attended George Mason University, where she studied mathematics and computer science. Her passion for learning led her to a successful career at Georgetown University, where she worked as an Associate Director for 20 years. Her dedication and professionalism left a lasting impression on those who worked with her.

Family has always been at the center of Diana’s life. She and Noel raised two wonderful children and were later blessed with four grandchildren, who brought them immense joy. Much of their happiest time was spent together as a family.

Later in life, Diana and Noel retired early so they could focus on what mattered most to them: spending time with family, gardening, and enjoying the outdoors. They also lived for a time in Clifton, Virginia, where they continued to make wonderful memories together.

Diana has always had a sense of adventure and a love for travel. Two of her favorite destinations have been the scenic landscapes of Vermont and the rich culture of Spain. These experiences reflect her curiosity and appreciation for the beauty of the world.

Now a resident at The Harbor at Renaissance Assisted Living of Greene County, Diana is cherished and celebrated for her warmth, strength and adventurous spirit. Her life story is one of dedication to family, meaningful work, and embracing the simple joys of life. We are honored to have Diana as part of our community.

Donna’s roots reach back to the wide, open spaces of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, where she grew up as the middle child between two brothers. Family has always been the heart of her world, and that love only grew stronger over time. Today, Donna is the proud mother of two children and an adoring grandmother to eight grandchildren, each one a source of immense joy.

After attending Echo High School, Donna went on to Business School, determined to build a foundation for a meaningful career. Her sharp mind and steady hand soon led her into the world of accounting, where she found purpose not just in numbers, but in serving others. She managed a bank and later took on the role of church financial manager—positions that allowed her to blend her skills with her deep sense of service and faith. Donna’s dedication spanned decades, and she retired in 2010, leaving a legacy of hard work and integrity behind.

Donna’s adventurous spirit has taken her to some of the world’s most beautiful places—Greece, Norway, and Ireland among them. But she’s just as happy savoring the simple pleasures of home: a frosty Coke, a favorite sweet treat, or a cozy evening watching game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune. She loves the timeless charm of Mary Poppins, and her sweet tooth is always ready for a little indulgence.

Faith is the cornerstone of Donna’s life. She’s always been deeply involved in church, and she begins every morning with breakfast and a Bible devotion. As a resident at The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County, she finds joy in spiritual gatherings, putting together puzzles, strolling outdoors, and joining in for a friendly game of Bingo. She also treasures historical stories and finds comfort in both Christian and classical music.

One of Donna’s greatest joys is her beloved dog, Princess, who holds a truly special place in her heart.

We’re grateful Donna chose to make her home with us at The Harbor. Her gentle presence, unwavering faith, and joyful spirit make our community a better place—and we look forward to seeing her sparkle light up our days for many more to come.

Jim Bailey, resident at The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County, grew up in Santa Cruz County, California, and attended Campbell High School, but family is what’s always been at the heart of his life. He’s a proud dad of two and a grandfather who lights up talking about his two grandchildren. That kind of love doesn’t just stay at home—it flows out to everyone Jim meets, and you feel it the moment you talk to him.

For 35 years, Jim put his steady hands and sharp mind to work as an electrician. But before that, he served our country with honor as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Alaska and Guam were two of his favorite stops, and when Jim shares those stories, you hear the pride and respect he still holds for those days. It’s not just about duty—it’s about a deep connection to something bigger than himself.

Jim’s got a sweet tooth that never quits—ice cream is his weakness—and he’s rarely without a hot cup of coffee in hand. Music fills his days, and he once loved painting sailing ships, capturing every detail with care. When he wanted to be outside, he was in the garden or the yard, enjoying the sun and the satisfaction that comes from working with your hands.

Faith is a guiding light for Jim. He’s been a regular at church for as long as anyone can remember, and it shows in the kindness and genuine care he offers everyone around him. He stays connected to the world by watching the news, always curious, always thoughtful.

Here at The Harbor, Jim’s favorite moments are during devotions, music activities, and storytelling sessions—places where his love for sharing memories and listening to others shines brightest. He’s not just part of the community; he’s part of its heart.

Jim Bailey’s gentle spirit, rich stories, and warm presence remind us all what it means to live with kindness and purpose. We’re grateful to call him family.

The Power of Connection: Why Senior Living Is Good for the Mind and Heart

Social connection plays a powerful role in protecting mental and emotional well-being as we age, yet it is often one of the first things to fade when seniors live alone. Changes in health, mobility or daily routine can make it harder to stay socially engaged, leading many older adults to experience isolation without realizing it. Moving into a senior living community like The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County can be a meaningful step toward restoring connection, purpose and a sense of belonging as well as a means to keeping the mind sharp.

One of the greatest benefits of senior living is the built-in opportunity for daily interaction. Instead of relying on occasional visits or scheduled outings, residents are surrounded by peers and team members who become part of everyday life. Shared meals, group activities and casual conversations create natural moments of connection that help seniors feel less alone and more emotionally supported. Friendships formed often become deep and meaningful, offering comfort during both joyful and challenging moments.

Social engagement also supports mental sharpness and emotional resilience. The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County offers structured programs such as musical events, games, classes and creative activities that encourage conversation and learning. These experiences help keep the mind active while providing excitement for the days ahead. For many seniors, having something to look forward to each day makes a meaningful difference in overall outlook.

For families, choosing senior living can bring peace of mind. Knowing a loved one is socially connected and emotionally supported eases concerns about loneliness and isolation. Families often notice positive changes after a move, including improved mood, increased engagement and a renewed sense of joy in their loved one’s daily life.

Ultimately, moving into a senior living community is not about giving something up. It is about gaining connection, companionship and support. By prioritizing social interaction and meaningful relationships, The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County helps seniors protect their mental and emotional health while enjoying a fuller, more connected way of life.

After the busy holiday season, many seniors notice changes in energy levels, mobility or comfort, making the New Year a natural time for families to pause and consider what support will help their loved ones feel their best. New Year care focuses on thoughtful steps that nurture independence, confidence and quality of life throughout the year. For some seniors who may be feeling the effects of aging, a senior living community that emphasizes whole-person wellness, such as The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County, can offer the right balance of support, connection and peace of mind for both residents and families.

One important part of New Year care is access to therapy services that help seniors maintain strength, balance and independence. Physical and occupational therapy can play a key role in improving mobility, supporting recovery and enhancing daily routines. At The Harbor, therapy services are coordinated with care teams, making it easier for residents to participate consistently and work toward goals that support long-term wellness.

Pain management is another essential focus as seniors begin the year. Chronic pain can affect more than just physical comfort; it can also impact mood, sleep and overall quality of life. Senior living communities take a comprehensive approach to pain management, combining medical oversight, therapy, movement and comfort-focused strategies. This collaborative care helps ensure concerns are addressed early, allowing residents to remain engaged and comfortable in their daily lives.

Staying active is a powerful way for seniors to support both physical and emotional well-being. Regular movement helps maintain flexibility, strength and balance while also encouraging social connection. At The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County, residents have access to a variety of opportunities to stay active, from gentle exercise classes and walking groups to wellness programs designed to meet residents where they are. These activities are thoughtfully structured to be safe, enjoyable and empowering.

Equally important to physical care is the social connection that supports mental and emotional wellbeing. The Harbor offers daily opportunities for meaningful interaction, whether through shared meals, group activities, creative programs or simple conversations with neighbors and team members who truly know each resident. These moments of connection help reduce feelings of isolation, encourage a sense of belonging and bring joy to everyday life.

For families, knowing a loved one is supported by a compassionate team that prioritizes therapy, pain management and active living can provide lasting peace of mind. By focusing on whole-person wellness, The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County help residents begin the year feeling supported, capable and connected, creating a strong foundation for health and happiness in the months ahead.

If you’ve ever walked through the doors of The Harbor at Renaissance and been greeted with a cheerful, “Howdy!” then you’ve had the pleasure of meeting our beloved Ellie Beck. Ellie has been part of The Harbor family for several years now, and each day with her is a joy.

Ellie was born in Albemarle County and grew up in Earlysville, living on a farm as the youngest of five children. She remembers her childhood fondly, describing it as wonderful—full of hard work, simple pleasures, and truly living off the land. Those early years helped shape her love for nature, animals, and all things outdoors.

A proud graduate of Albemarle High School, Ellie later worked for State Farm Insurance. One of the most beautiful chapters of her life began at a dance in Charlottesville, where she met the love of her life, Oscar Beck. He served in the Army during their early years together, and in 1963, they were married. They built a life filled with laughter, adventure, and devotion.

Together, they raised two wonderful children—a boy and a girl—and Ellie beams with pride when she talks about her family, which now includes three beautiful grandchildren. Ellie and Oscar also volunteered side by side with the Earlysville Volunteer Fire Department, pouring their time and hearts into serving their community.

Ellie has always loved traveling. Some of her favorite memories include trips to Tennessee, Hampton Roads, and tours of historic battlefields. Her eyes still light up when she talks about her adventures or reminisces about the Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah National Park, and the Shenandoah Valley—places that will forever hold a piece of her heart.

If you’re looking for Ellie, you might find her outside, resting in the sunshine, and enjoying a comforting cup of coffee—the perfect relaxing day in her book.

She is an avid bird watcher, a hobby she has loved throughout her life and one she continues to enjoy here at The Harbor. She is also a lifelong animal lover, having had many cats and dogs of her own. Indoors, she enjoys watching the weather, listening to country music and gospel hymns (especially “Amazing Grace”), and tuning in to good old-fashioned game shows. She’ll never turn down a fun game of bingo, “finish the phrase,” or trivia with her Harbor friends.

Ellie’s sense of humor is unmatched. If she sees you yawning, don’t be surprised to hear her say, “Wake up, little Suzie.” And if she catches you dancing, be prepared for her to cheer, “Shake it, baby, shake it!” Her lighthearted spirit brings so much joy to those around her.

We are truly grateful to have Ellie as part of our Harbor family. Her warmth, humor, stories, and zest for life brighten each day. It is a blessing to know her, care for her, and share the wonderful memories she continues to create.

There’s a new ray of sunshine lighting up The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County, and her name is Laura Thacker! Since joining our Harbor family in October, Laura has been spreading smiles, laughter, and stories wherever she goes. She’s quickly become a bright and beloved presence among us.

Born and raised in Orange, Virginia, Laura grew up surrounded by her four siblings. It’s easy to see that her loving, family-centered spirit took root early on. She went on to graduate from Orange High School, where she played softball—her competitive spark and team spirit still shine bright today!

Laura spent many hardworking years with Comdial before retiring to embrace all the joys that come with family, faith, and a life well lived. She has two wonderful daughters, Laurinda and Lisa; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren who keep her heart full and her stories lively!

When it comes to favorite things, Laura’s list is as delightful as she is. She loves pizza, pancakes, and bacon—all best enjoyed with an ice-cold Pepsi. She’s a big fan of TV Land classics, country and gospel music, and she lights up when talking about soccer, her family, or her many adventures.

Speaking of adventures, Laura has traveled to places like Nashville, Myrtle Beach, Florida, and West Virginia—always ready for good company and a scenic view. She loves gardening, volunteering, and taking walks, and she has fond memories of canning and freezing food from her own garden to enjoy through the winter.

Animals have always held a special place in her heart, too—she still loves to talk about her dog Bandit and her childhood pup Tippy, two furry friends who left a lasting impression.

Faith and community are cornerstones of Laura’s life. A proud Baptist, she finds comfort in prayer and joy in fellowship. Over the years, she’s been deeply involved in her church and community—from women’s groups and children’s church to vacation Bible school and the Senior Center in Madison.

If you ask about special memories, her eyes light up as she shares sweet stories from her daughters’ weddings or the days spent cheering at her grandson’s soccer games, where she was affectionately known as “the grandmother of the team.”

These days at The Harbor, Laura continues sharing her warmth and kindness with everyone she meets. Whether she’s making staff and residents laugh, asking about your day, or joining in an activity, she brings a spark that truly brightens every corner. Laura Thacker is a woman full of heart, humor, and life—and we’re so lucky to have her as part of our Harbor family.

The holiday season is often filled with family gatherings, joyful traditions and meaningful moments—but for many families caring for an aging loved one, it can also be one of the most stressful times of the year. As routines change and days get busier, meeting the needs of aging parents or grandparents can become more complex, leaving family caregivers feeling stretched thin. While many families consider senior living as a helpful next step, they often hesitate to make the transition before the holidays. Common concerns include the fear that a loved one will feel lonely or abandoned, the worry it will disrupt the season and family traditions, or bring judgment from family and friends. But for many families, waiting may actually increase stress for both seniors and caregivers rather than ease it.

In reality, moving into a senior living community before the holidays can be one of the most supportive decisions a family can make. At The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County, the holidays are filled with festive events, warm social connections and compassionate team members who help residents feel at home quickly. Rather than spending the season stressed and exhausted, families can share more meaningful, quality time together—free from the pressures of caregiving tasks and safety concerns. The Harbor encourages visits, whether it is at their community or at home for Christmas dinner. Instead of a disruption, the move often brings relief, stability and more joy to everyone involved.

The holidays can also highlight areas where a senior needs additional support: increased confusion in busy environments, difficulty navigating crowded gatherings and challenges with mobility often become more noticeable this time of year. The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County is trained to meet these needs in a way that keeps the season enjoyable. For those with limited mobility, communities offer accessible events, transportation assistance, and safe, thoughtfully designed spaces—ensuring seniors can still participate in the traditions they love. For residents living with Alzheimer’s or dementia, structured activities, sensory-friendly celebrations and predictable daily routines help prevent overstimulation and confusion. These specialized supports help families worry less and give seniors a safer, more comfortable holiday environment.

Christmas-time is already hectic, and many caregivers are already juggling managing medications, preparing meals, assisting with personal care and coordinating doctor’s visits. By moving a loved one into a community before the holiday rush, caregivers gain the gift of rest. Rather than carrying the full weight alone, they can rely on a team of trained professionals who are available around the clock. This relief allows caregivers to enjoy holiday moments more fully—sharing stories over dinner, watching favorite movies together or simply being present without the pressure of caregiving.

It’s also important to remember that the transition into senior living doesn’t erase family traditions—it often enhances them. Families can decorate their loved one’s new apartment together, bring treasured holiday recipes to share or join community events designed to include residents and their families. If your family has been considering senior living but putting it off until the new year, this season may actually be the perfect time to make the move. With compassionate care, festive community life and support tailored to each resident’s needs, The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County can help bring peace, comfort and joy to your loved one and to you.

Andrea has been a cherished resident of The Harbor for many years, and her vibrant spirit continues to light up our halls each and every day. Born and raised in the island paradise of Honolulu and Oahu, Hawaii, Andrea brings a warm, tropical charm to everything she does. Her childhood memories are filled with sunshine, the sound of waves, and the close-knit embrace of her island community. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, she attended the University of Hawaii, where her love for learning and life continued to blossom.

As a devoted homemaker and stay-at-home mother, Andrea poured her heart into raising her four children: Lance, Heather, Denise, and Lori. She and her husband built a loving home full of laughter, good food, and family traditions. Family has always been at the center of Andrea’s world, and she shares a deep bond with her sister Audrey and brother Alan. Just as she cherishes her loved ones, Andrea brings that same warmth to her hobbies and the friends she’s made at The Harbor.

Andrea’s zest for life is impossible to miss. Whether she’s tending to her garden, enjoying a hot cup of coffee, solving puzzles, or catching up on her favorite true crime shows, she dives in with joy. She’s also a big fan of movies, music, and classic game shows like Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. And if the sounds of the 60s are playing, you’ll almost always find Andrea dancing along.

Her caring nature extends to animals, too. Andrea lovingly raised two pups, Louie and Lacie, and she always lights up around furry friends. She also has a fondness for sweet treats and enjoys a bit of pampering—especially when it comes to getting her nails done.

Some of Andrea’s favorite memories include adventures to San Francisco, Maui, and Texas. Whether she’s traveling, chatting with friends, or exercising, Andrea brings a positive energy that inspires everyone around her.

At The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County, we’re lucky to know Andrea. Her kindness, humor, and infectious laughter make everyone feel at home. She’s not just a resident—she’s a bright light whose presence lifts our spirits every day.

Stanardsville, Va. (Nov. 2025) — At The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County, the health and safety of our residents and team members is our highest priority. As part of our commitment to providing a clean, healthy, and supportive environment, we have replaced traditional cleaning chemicals with a safer, more sustainable solution.

The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County has partnered with Viking Pure Solutions, a leader in non-toxic cleaning technologies, to bring innovative, hospital-grade cleaning and disinfecting to our community. Viking Pure installs on-site systems that generate powerful cleaning and disinfecting solutions using only salt, water, and electricity. This process creates electrolyzed water: a safe, fragrance-free, and highly effective alternative to conventional chemicals.

Unlike many commercial cleaning products, Viking Pure’s solutions are free from harmful ingredients linked to respiratory issues, endocrine disruption, and other health concerns that disproportionately affect older adults. Their disinfectant is EPA-registered as hospital grade and proven to kill bacteria, fungi, and viruses, including norovirus and COVID-19, without the risks associated with harsh chemicals.

If you ever find yourself in the The Harbor at Renaissance’s lounge when laughter rings out and smiles light up the room, chances are, Joyce Brown is nearby. Born and raised amid the rolling hills and quiet charm of Culpeper and Rappahannock, Joyce is the only child of Gid and Elizabeth Jenkins—who, by all accounts, poured their hearts into raising her. Sundays as a child were spent dashing across grassy fields, joyfully tangled in games with cousins and neighborhood friends. Those afternoons are still some of her fondest memories.

Through the hallways of both Culpeper High and Rappahannock High, Joyce walked with dreams of nursing stitched quietly into her heart. But fate had other ideas, leading her to a respected role as bookkeeper at Culpeper Farmers Co-Op—a place where her meticulous nature and warmth made her well known in the community.

It was also in those high school years that she met Tommy Brown, the boy who would become her partner for life. Years of easy friendship blossomed into love, and eventually into a marriage that has lasted an extraordinary 56 years so far. Together, Joyce and Tommy built a life full of adventure, never missing the chance to pack a bag and see something new. Virginia Beach remains her favorite destination, its ocean breezes and soft sand stitched through her happiest memories. The Caribbean called to them too, offering turquoise waters and bright mornings aboard cruise ships—a testament to their shared spirit of discovery.

Since joining our Harbor family, Joyce has thrown herself into everything we offer, but there’s something extra special about seeing her light up when it’s time for Bingo. Whether she’s marking cards or sharing a laugh with friends, Joyce’s joy is undeniable.

It isn’t just her stories or adventures that make Joyce special—it’s the genuine warmth in her voice, the kindness in her eyes, and most of all, that radiant, contagious smile. Spend a few minutes in her company, and you’ll feel like you’ve known her all your life.

If you’ve ever shared a laugh in the courtyard at The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County or found yourself smiling during Bingo, chances are, Joyce Hagee was part of the reason why.

Raised in Charlottesville, Virginia, by her devoted parents George and Myrtle, Joyce grew up with her brother (also George!) in a home where family always came first. That sense of belonging and care is something Joyce still brings with her every single day as a resident here.

After graduating from Lane High School, Joyce spent more than 25 years as a cashier at CVS. Her warm smile and easy conversation left a lasting mark on everyone who came through her line—co-workers and customers alike remember her kindness.

Life’s biggest adventure for Joyce began when she married Jerry Hagee, her soulmate and best friend. Together, they raised two sons, and today, Joyce lights up at any mention of her five grandchildren. She’s quick to share a story or a proud grin about their latest accomplishments; ask her about them, and you’ll get to see her happiest smile.

Joyce has a knack for finding joy in the little things. She loves starting her day with a classic breakfast—bacon and eggs never go out of style—and treats herself to fresh blueberry muffins whenever she can. On a hot day, nothing beats an ice-cold Sprite for Joyce.

She’s always been a bit of an explorer, whether off to Bear Creek Lake, the beach, Tennessee, or West Virginia. For Joyce, it’s not just about the destination, but the memories made along the way. These days, you’ll often find her soaking up sunshine in The Harbor’s courtyard, or keeping everyone entertained during our bus outings with her laughter and stories.

Inside our walls, Joyce’s spirit is just as lively. She’s a Bingo regular, a trivia enthusiast, and quick to call out the tune during our favorite games. Her laughter is contagious, and her presence makes every event brighter.

Evenings are her time to unwind—she never misses Wheel of Fortune and loves revisiting old favorites like Beverly Hills Cop. No matter where you find her, Joyce has a way of making everyone feel at home. She’s always ready with a story, a listening ear, and a smile that sticks with you long after.

We feel so lucky to have Joyce as part of our Harbor family. This month, and every month, we celebrate her warmth, her stories, and the joy she brings to everyone around her.

Growing up in the picturesque Charlottesville and Greene County, Carolyn has spent much of her life in the heart of Virginia. Family has always played a vital role in Carolyn’s life. Growing up in a household dedicated to service, her mother worked as a nurse at the University of Virginia, exemplifying compassion and care. Meanwhile, her father took pride in his role as head of maintenance at the university, ensuring that everything ran smoothly. Carolyn has two brothers and one sister. This close-knit family continues to be a source of support and joy in her life.

Carolyn’s youth was filled with activity and enthusiasm. She loved playing softball and was an avid bowler, finding joy in both the competition and camaraderie. One of her fondest childhood memories is of her golden retriever, Sam, who was a constant companion during her formative years. This early love for animals has blossomed into a lifelong passion. Carolyn adores both cats and dogs and cherishes the happiness they bring into her life.

Carolyn’s educational journey began at William Monroe High School and continued at Rockhill Academy, where she developed a strong foundation that would support her future aspirations. With a passion for science ignited at an early age, Carolyn went on to attend the University of Virginia. There, she majored in science with dreams of becoming an astronomer—an ambition shared with her husband, highlighting their mutual love for the stars and the mysteries of the universe. She worked as an astronomer at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Charlottesville.

Stanardsville, Va. (Feb. 2025) —The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County is home to seniors with Alzheimer’s, dementia and other forms of memory loss. The community is dedicated to providing innovative memory care that helps residents meet their highest quality of life each day. In this spirit, The Harbor will host Loretta Veney, an inspirational speaker and certified ‘LEGO® Serious Play®’ facilitator. Veney will provide training for the Harbor teams members to enhance their life enrichment programs, as well as training for family members on creating meaningful interactions with their loved ones. The goal is to promote effective communication while evoking memories for residents during times of play.

Veney began engaging with her mother using LEGO® bricks and immediately saw benefits from it. She eventually began facilitating ‘LEGO® Serious Play®’ workshops for other caregivers. As a result, Veney and her mother were chosen as one of the Robin Roberts Thriver Thursday recipients and were featured on Good Morning America. They have also been featured in the Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The NY Times and a PBS special. In 2023, Veney was recognized with a Maude Award, given to individuals and companies using innovative methods for engaging with those with dementia. Veney is the author of Being My Mom’s Mom, Refreshment for the Caregiver’s Spirit, and Colors Flowing from My Mind.

Ellie has dedicated her life to the well-being of children. For many years, Ellie taught special needs children and spent time as a social worker helping families navigate the difficulties of adoption. Even in her 80s, she was still teaching students at Ruckersville Elementary School in Stanardsville.

It has been a year since Ellie joined The Renaissance community and her life is full of her favorite things. She loves coffee, chocolate, knitting, enjoys reading, and even attends a book club. Music is her biggest passion, having been a member of her school’s orchestra and a habitual pianist and organist at church throughout her life.

“Most of Ellie’s relatives have already passed on ahead of her, so we at Renaissance have claimed Ellie as our own. She will forever be part of our Renaissance family. The team here wishes Ellie the happiest of birthdays on this milestone year,” said Beth Murphy, Executive Director of Renaissance Assisted Living of Greene County.

Legacy Senior Living and Dominion Senior Living to Offer New Alzheimer’s Support Services Headed by Dr. Ronald Harvard

Legacy Senior Living is excited to announce a new Alzheimer's Support Service to families caring for loved one's with memory loss disorders.

Cleveland, Tenn. (Feb. 2024) — Legacy Senior Living and Dominion Senior Living, a family of senior living communities serving the Eastern United States, are excited to announce Alzheimer’s Support Services, a new program for both companies. This is a free service that is designed to give support and resources to families and caregivers who are navigating the pressures of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or other memory loss conditions.

Dr. Ronald Harvard has come aboard as the Director of Alzheimer’s Support Services. As a pastor, counselor, college professor and primary caregiver to his late wife, Linda, who suffered from Alzheimer’s for 20 years, Dr. Harvard brings many years of experience to this new program. At various times, Dr. Harvard has served his alma mater, Lee University, as a faculty member in the psychology department, as Director of Counseling, and as an adjunct faculty member at Lee Online. He and Linda also served as senior pastor at churches in Florida, Indiana, and Georgia.

With degrees in Biblical Studies, Social Psychology, and Pastoral Counseling, Dr. Harvard’s love for teaching and counseling have defined his life, but no more so than the love of his life, Linda, and their four children.

Dr. Harvard’s introduction to Alzheimer’s was personal and very painful. In the fall of 2003, Dr. Harvard recognized the beginning signs of memory loss in his late wife, Linda. Fifteen years later, Linda became a resident of a Legacy Senior Living community, The Harbor at Legacy Village of Cleveland. In May of 2023, Linda passed away. Dr. Harvard chronicled his struggles and victories in his blog, “Dementia: walking victoriously through the ‘Long Goodbye,’” offering lessons learned, meditations, and comfort to many.

“What became clear to me during the process of loving Linda through the battle of Alzheimer’s, was that I was being prepared to minister to families going through similar situations. My mission in leading this new Alzheimer’s Support Service is to provide behavioral insights, practical direction and comfort through support groups and one-on-one meetings,” said Dr. Harvard.

“This is a program that we are so excited to offer to families that are struggling with the challenges of memory loss. We are eager to welcome Dr. Harvard to this position as he supports other family members and caregivers navigating this overwhelming season,” said Barry Ray, CEO and Co-Founder of Legacy Senior Living.
